Right after your LHR Underarms appointment, the single most important rule is simple: keep the area clean and cool, and avoid heat and friction. This treatment is fast (about 15 minutes), but your skin still needs a calm 24 to 48 hours to settle. In Gainesville, that often means being extra mindful about sweat, hot showers, and busy days running around Heritage Village Plaza or commuting near Route 29 and I-66. Below is our practical checklist so you protect your laser hair underarm results and stay comfortable.
0 to 24 hours after laser hair underarm: keep it cool, clean, and product-free
Your underarms can look a little pink, feel warm, or have tiny “goosebump” dots around follicles after lasering underarms. That’s common. What helps most is reducing heat, sweat, and rubbing.
Do this today: cool compresses (10 minutes at a time), a gentle lukewarm rinse in the shower, and loose clothing that doesn’t chafe.
Today’s “don’t” list
- Skip deodorant and antiperspirant for at least 24 hours (longer if you’re still tender). Freshly treated skin and fragranced products don’t mix well.
- Avoid heavy sweating: intense workouts, hot yoga, long runs, or anything that leaves your underarms damp for hours.
- No hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, or hot tubs. Heat can keep redness hanging around.
- Avoid swimming if your skin feels irritated. Chlorine and bacteria can be irritating.
- Don’t exfoliate, scrub, or use acids/retinoids on the area.
If you have to be out and about in Gainesville during a humid summer day, try to keep airflow under your arms. A soft cotton top beats a tight athletic tank on day one.
24 to 48 hours: when deodorant, workouts, and shaving usually come back
By the second day, most people feel normal again. This is also where small choices protect your result and your comfort, especially if you’re juggling school runs, work, and errands around Heritage Village Plaza.
Quick rule: If the skin still stings, looks bright red, or feels “raw, ” give it more time before you add products or friction.
Deodorant
We generally recommend waiting 24 to 48 hours before using deodorant after laser under arms treatment. Start with a gentle, fragrance-free option if you have it. If your usual antiperspirant is strong or heavily scented, it’s smart to hold off until there’s no tenderness.
Exercise
Light movement is fine, but avoid workouts that create a lot of sweat and rubbing in the underarm fold for the first 24 hours. After that, you can usually ease back in. If Gainesville humidity has you sweating quickly, keep workouts shorter and choose breathable fabrics for another day or two.
Shaving
Shaving is generally permitted between sessions, but we like you to wait at least 24 hours. If you still have redness or bumps, wait until the skin looks calm. And skip anything that pulls hair out by the root. No waxing, plucking, or threading between appointments.
Days 3 to 7: the small mistakes that irritate under arms laser treatment
Once you’re past the first 48 hours, most aftercare is about not picking a fight with your skin. The underarm area is already prone to friction and product buildup. Give it a quiet week.
Avoid exfoliation for 3 to 7 days
Hold off on scrubs, loofahs, exfoliating gloves, glycolic pads, and “brightening” deodorants for at least 3 to 7 days. If you’re sensitive, stick to the longer end. Tiny follicle bumps tend to settle faster when you don’t scrub them.
No picking, even if you see little dots
As treated hairs shed over the next week or two, you might notice a “peppery” look. That’s not hair growing back overnight. It’s shedding. Let it happen naturally.
Sun and heat still matter
Underarms aren’t usually sun-exposed, but heat is still a factor, especially after outdoor activities. If you’ve been golfing or outside in a humid Gainesville afternoon, shower soon after, pat the area dry, and keep products simple.
The only products we like in the first 48 hours (and what to pack for I-66 days)
You don’t need a complicated routine after laser hair underarm treatment. Think gentle, fragrance-free, and breathable.
- Cleanser: a mild, fragrance-free body wash and lukewarm water. No aggressive scrubbing.
- Soothing layer: pure aloe vera or a simple fragrance-free moisturizer if you feel dry or tight.
- Cooling help: a cool compress for warmth or swelling. Don’t apply ice directly to skin.
Commuter-friendly aftercare kit: soft cotton top, fragrance-free wipes (for sweat, not scrubbing), and a small tube of aloe gel. If you’re already in Heritage Village Plaza, it’s easy to grab fragrance-free basics nearby and keep the rest of your day moving.
Side note: If you found us while searching “hydrafacial near me, ” keep this same mindset. Calm skin gets the best results, no matter the service.
When to call us after lasering underarms (and what’s normal)
A little redness, warmth, and small follicle bumps can be normal right after under arms laser treatment. They usually settle within a day or two. What we don’t want is worsening irritation.
Reach out right away if you notice:
- Increasing pain instead of improving comfort
- Redness that’s spreading past the treatment area
- Blistering, open skin, or drainage
- Fever or anything that feels like an infection
